Herod's Palace at Caesarea

Caesarea, Israel

The remnants of one of King Herod's palaces sit on the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea in Caesarea, Israel. What little of the structure that remains today is the subject for much debate by archaeologists. I developed this 3D model based upon archaeological surveys and evidence; however, it is also informed by the spatial relationships and hierarchies that revealed themselves within the palace complex and with the adjacent city and landscape. Although much of the model is speculative in nature, the resulting structure is plausible based upon physical and literary evidence, as well a current understanding of activities that took place within the palace.
